Born on July 30^th 1947, Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger is an Austrian-American former professional body builder, actor, director, businessman, investor, and politician who served as the 38th Governor of California from 2003 - 2011. Schwarzenegger began to weight train at the young age of 15, was awarded the title of Mr. Universe at age 20 and went on to win the Mr. Olympia contest seven times. Schwarzenegger has remained a prominent presence in the sport of body building and he has written several books and numerous articles on the sport. Schwarzenegger gained worldwide fame as a Hollywood action film icon, moving from body building into acting when he was chosen to play the role of Hercules in 1970's 'Hercules in New York'. Schwarzenegger's breakthrough film was the sword-and-sorcery epic Conan the Barbarian in 1982, which was a box-office hit. In 1984, he made the first of three appearances as the eponymous character and what some would say was the signature role in his acting career in director James Cameron's science fiction thriller film 'The Terminator.' He further made several more successful films including; Commando (1985), Raw Deal (1986), The Running Man (1987), Red Heat (1988) and Predator (1987). On October 7, 2003, Schwarzenegger was elected the first foreign-born governor of California since Irish-born Governor John G. Downey in 1862. Schwarzenegger ran for re-election in the 2006 elections, held on November 7, 2006 and was re-elected with 56% of the vote.
